West Shore Marina, a premier marina located on the North Shore of Long Island, is seeking a results-driven General Manager to lead operations with a strong focus on slip leasing, boatyard service, and local business development. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands the Long Island boating market, thrives in customer-facing environments, and can build relationships that convert into long-term occupancy.
Slip Leasing & Customer Growth
- Serve as the primary point of contact for current and prospective slip holders.
- Lead all leasing efforts, including marketing available slips, conducting property tours, managing contracts and renewals, and maintaining occupancy.
- Maintain accurate records of slip assignments, lease terms, and customer status using marina management software.
- Build strong relationships with customers and prospects through regular communication and timely follow-up.
- Network with local yacht clubs, boat dealers, waterfront events, and marine vendors to generate leads and referrals.
Service Department Oversight
- Supervise the marina’s boat service department, including mechanics, yard staff, and technicians.
- Manage Schedules, quotes, and manage repairs and maintenance projects; ensure timely, high-quality completion.
- Communicate proactively with customers on estimates, service timelines, and expectations.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards across service operations.
Customer Experience & Hospitality
- Create a warm, welcoming environment for all slip holders and guests.
- Implement a concierge-style approach to customer service, including readiness checks, refueling coordination, and handling special requests.
- Proactively resolve issues and deliver prompt, professional responses to inquiries or concerns.
- Maintain a visible presence on the docks during busy periods to engage with customers and staff.
Operations & Team Leadership
- Oversee day-to-day marina operations including dock assignments, vessel movement, and facility upkeep.
- Recruit, train, and supervise seasonal and full-time team members including dockhands, office staff, and service personnel.
- Develop work schedules, assign tasks, and ensure adequate staffing levels to meet operational needs.
- Promote a culture of accountability, hospitality, and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate maintenance schedules, vendor services (e.g., landscaping, waste removal), and safety checks.
- Lead capital improvement projects and coordinate with contractors as needed.
Administration & Financial Management
- Collaborate with ownership on pricing strategy, operating budgets, and financial performance.
- Manage customer billing, seasonal slip renewals, and service invoicing through marina management systems.
- Track KPIs related to occupancy, service revenue, and expense control.
- Ensure proper documentation, reporting, and compliance with all regulatory guidelines.
Skills & Qualifications
- Knowledge of marina operations, boatyard service management, and Long Island’s boating landscape.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and customer service skills.
- Proficiency in marina management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Availability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays during boating season.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a proactive and results-oriented approach.
- CPR/First Aid certification or USCG license a plus.
